Directory Submitter Review | Directory Link Promotion

Directory Submitter software box and CD image 150x150 Directory Submitter Review | Directory Link PromotionDirectory link promotion? I wasn’t planning on reviewing any directory submitter software (even a free one like this) on this website. This was supposed to be just SEO software. But I just finally used Directory Submitter today after downloading and installing it a year ago and, well, I’m impressed.

I also want to say upfront that submitting your website to directories should be the very least that you do when it comes to building one-way, incoming links. If directory submissions are the only link building you do, you’re not going to get to the first page of Google. Ever.

But I do it for all of my clients because it’s an important part of the link building process. I’ve just always done it manually because, well, after using this software today, I guess because I’m stupid.

Now, back to Directory Submitter. This may sound like a strange thing to say but it’s nice looking software. I mean, I’ve downloaded free software before and it’s usually crap and looks like crap. But this thing looks like Brad Callen spent some time and money on it.

Here’s how Directory Submitter works:

When you open it up, the first thing you’re going to do is create a new project. See image below…

New Directory Submitter Project form

When you type in the name of your new project, make sure you type in the anchor text you want for your links as the project name. Next, you’ll be in the personal information form:

In the manual, they recommend that you use phony information for your contact info if you’re leery about putting that info on the Internet. However, don’t leave it blank. Some directories won’t accept a submission without that information.

Lastly, we come to the Website Information submission form. This is the really important one. Get this wrong and you’re going to doing a lot of time wasting submitting your website.

Website Information submission form

Fill this in just as you would your meta tags on your pages you want to submit. (They don’t tell you this but you have to double-click in the space to type in your information.) If you have more than one keyword phrase on the Home page, you can fill in more than one description and more than one keyword phrase. Then when you get to the directory, you can hit the fill button and it will rotate through your different titles. One of the little things that really impressed me.

Now for one of the things that didn’t impress me. They don’t tell you what to do next. The manual goes into a sales pitch about the affiliate program. So I sat there staring at my computer screen wondering how to actually get the thing to start the submission campaign.

Finally, out of desperation, I double-clicked on the first directory listed in the top box. And in the bottom window, the Home page opens for the first directory. I click on the Submit Link button on the directory page and the form opens and the Directory Submitter automatically fills in the form.

I LIKE THIS!!!! This is my kind of directory link promotion

I just fill in the recaptcha and hit submit and I’m done. Double-click the next directory and in about thirty seconds I’m done with another directory submission. Within half an hour, I had 15 directory submissions done.

If you’re wondering why I only had 15 done in half an hour if it only takes about 30 seconds to do a submission, there’s anumber of reasons.

  1. I won’t bother submitting to a directory with less than a PR 3 so I had to skip some.
  2. Some of the directories (even some with a Page Rank of 4) were defunct.
  3. Some of them won’t let you submit to a top level directory category. So you have to scroll through and pick one.

Still, all in all, this is a great piece of software and it saved me the one thing an Internet Marketer never has enough of: Time!

One more thing I like about this software is that I’ve always had trouble keeping track of which directories I submitted a site to. Especially with hundreds of directories (Directory Submitter’s free version gives you 350 to choose from; the paid version is over 900!) out there.

However, Directory Submitter keeps track of every site I submit to for each project so if later on, I decide to go after some of the lower page rank sites, I know exactly which ones I haven’t submitted to yet.

If you want to give this free piece of software a try, click the link to Directory Submitter. I mean, it’s free! What have you got to lose?

Ashley, the paid version is exactly the same as the free version only with more directories. You should get a code in email to put into your program, just like any other program you purchase, which will unlock the paid for program.

I purchased this and all you get is a link to the free demo site.. ITs a scam.. and the free demo is so old many directorys are not available, some are not free and the rest you have to put a link on your site.. imagine your site with thousands of links on them,,
